Hi everyone, I hope everyone has had a good start to the school vacation (and a good Christmas if you celebrate)!  I got to get out and hit balls yesterday (in a heated covered bay) and today. It feels so good to be able to get out and see the ball flight. Taking lessons and hitting into nets with trackmans or simulators set up is great and I am so lucky to be able to take lessons indoors and have the opportunity to use them. Being able to see the ball flight however gives so much feedback and that is irreplaceable by any simulator or launch monitor.  As 2020 comes to a close we think about everything that it wasn't. While 2020 may not have been the year we all hoped it would be and it certainly came with its challenges. Golf luckily was one of the sports that was permitted during most of this pandemic. So many new people picked up the game, people that played years ago but got out of the habit came back, and the game has grown. I was lucky enough to have so many opportunities...

LPGA Tour past two weeks!

Hi everyone,  Two weeks ago was the 75th US Women's Open! It was so much fun to watch, as it always is. It was a great major and really came down to the final few holes. Watching Amy Olson come out with that preformance was so impressive especiall considering what she was dealing with personally at the same time. She gained a lot of fans and admiration that week. The amatuers in the field had such strong performances. It was so inspiring to watch them all. A Lim Kim had an incredible performance to come through with those birdies and win was so exciting to watch! Congratulations to her!  This past week was the CME Group Tour Championship on the LPGA Tour and the PNC Championship as well. The CME was so exciting to watch, there was so much great golf to be played. Jin-young Ko played amazing (as did everyone in the field!), and huge congratulations go out to her for coming out with the win by 5 shots! The PNC was as always so exciting! Tiger and Charlie Woods were in the feild ...

NHIAA GOLF!

Hi Gals, I hope everyone is having a good Monday so far. Who is watching the final round of the US Women's Open today? I love watching women's golf (men's too I just like all golf) and I feel like I learn so much! Last Thursday I attended the NHIAA golf committee's meeting along with Natalie Morhun to speak to the committee about the letter that I wrote along with many of my female golf friends who play high school golf here in NH. The letter was about the fact that golf was up until then recognized as "boys golf" and that excluded the growing number of girls participating and playing on their school's golf teams. I am super excited to be able to say that it is now called "golf"! Having it be called just golf with no gender identity included and have it just be the sport is so exciting. Golf is a game for everyone regardless of gender, race, background, etc. anyone can play this sport. This is just one small step towards creating a more equitable...

Interview with Mallory Blackwelder Trudeau!

Hi Gals, Sorry it took me a few more days than anticipated to get this up school got busy. This week's post is a super exciting one! I have an interview with Mallory Blackwelder Trudeau. Mallory grew up around the game of golf, went on to play collegiately, turn pro, play the 2015 season on the LPGA tour,  contest on The Big Break (where she ended up meeting her husband!). She is currently working as a player-manager with Fairwhay Management and taking care of her toddler Madeleine. I had the opportunity to meet Mallory at TPC Boston in 2017 during the Deutsche Bank Championship. She was there working with Danny Lee (other posts on my blog about Danny!) and I introduced myself. We have seen each other at other events since then and I always enjoy getting to catch up. Here it is... NH Golfer Gal: How did you get into golf and who got you into it? Mallory: When I was born, my mom, Myra VanHoose Blackwelder, played on the LPGA Tour, and my dad, Worth, caddied on the LPGA Tour. So I li...

My experience as the only girl on my high school golf team (Freshman year)

Hi Gals, I posted a few weeks back with a recap of my high school golf season, that post was focused mostly on the golf and match/tournament side of the season. There is a lot more to my season that I would like to share and so here it is! I am not writing this for sympathy or anything like that I am sharing this because I know that other girls have been through similar situations and I believe that it is important that we speak up about this. If we don't it will just continue to make the boys think that they can get away with it.  I was the only girl on the varsity team (we had one girl on JV!) and as the only girl, I faced some challenges. Challenges from the boys treating me differently or as less than, sexist comments, etc. I didn't feel like I was a part of a team this year, it felt like the seven boys were a team and I was an extra kid on the side.  Many (not all) made sexist comments throughout the season. Such as "Ew, female golfers. They better not beat us.",...
Hi Gals, Did anyone watch The Masters? Congratulations to Dustin Johnson on his win and everyone for a great week! It was so much fun to watch, already can't wait for April. Hope everyone is having a good Monday :) ~NH Golfer Gal
