US SENIOR WOMEN’S OPEN!!

Hi everyone,

This last week at Brooklawn Country Club in Connecticut was the 3rd US Senior Women’s Open! There were so many legends teeing it up including JoAnne Carner, Laura Davies, Catriona Matthew, and Michelle McGann! Laura Shanahan Rowe, who teaches out of the Sagamore-Hampton Golf Center here in NH, teed it up and made the cut finishing in a tie for 49th.

However making her first start in a USGA Championship since 2008, the GOAT, Annika Sorenstam held a share of the lead after the first round and the solo lead after the second and third rounds. With another phenomenal round yesterday in a very Annika-like fashion she took home the victory with an eight shot margin, 26 years after she won her first US Women’s Open!

Watching Annika tee it up was such a treat and being able to watch her win was an unbelievable opportunity! Before March of 2020 (when I watched her play in the Arnold Palmer Invitational Pro-Am) I had never thought I would be able to see my hero play, let alone win a USGA Championship! All week she walked the same pace and it seemed the same mentality even though as the week went on expectations grew and stakes went up. That is something I will for sure learn from that even after a tougher hole you’re never done or out of it, you can still make up for it and play well on the rest of the holes.

It was so sweet to watch her down the stretch as she and her husband Mike made the walk and when they had made it to the eighteenth fairway seeing her kids come out to hug her and hold her hands walking towards the green. Seeing how much having her family there meant to her was inspiring!

Annika also played the final two rounds with Liselotte Neumann, a fellow Swede who’s US Open victory Annika watched in the middle of the night as a teenager.

All week seeing all the women having fun with one another and enjoying the experience was a reminder of one of the many reasons this game is so great with the friendships formed.

Overall it was an incredible week and so much fun to watch the legends of the game teeing it up again! Great playing to all of the field and congratulations to Annika on her stellar performance! And thank you to Annika for playing and continuing to inspire and grow the game amongst girls!

Also this past week was the men’s golf competition at the Olympics where Xander Schauffele took home the gold medal for Team USA! Rory Sabbatini took silver and CT Pan emerged from the seven-man playoff for the bronze medal. This week is the women’s event and after that I will have a full Olympic recap and reaction! Congrats to all the medalists and great job to everyone it’s so great seeing golf back in the Olympics for just the second time since the early 1900s!
